#Curvy Trendsetters We’re Loving in 2015

Screen Shot 2015-07-20 at 11.29.04 AM

It’s a good time to be curvy, ladies! With the recent surge of the body positive movement and popularity of plus size models, there seems to be a shift in society’s perception of beauty. Curvy girls everywhere are confident and flaunting what they’ve got—knowing they’re beautiful because of their bodies, not despite them. Regardless of Instagram’s recent ban on #curvy, we’ve identified three ladies who are unapologetically showing that curves are nothing to be ashamed of. They are frontrunners in the body acceptance movement, encouraging women to love their bodies the way they are. We wouldn’t mind seeing all of them in our Killer Curves lingerie line, either.

Ashley Graham

She gained stardom after appearing in the first ever ad featuring a plus size model in this year’s Sport’s Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and has taken the fashion world by storm ever since. With “lingerie designer” as the newest title under her belt, she’s been incredibly vocal about overcoming the rigid standard of beauty that shames larger women into covering up or becoming thinner. “I really truly believe that beauty is beyond size because there is beauty in every type of woman,” she tells The Coveteur.

Tess Holliday

At size 22, Holliday is loud and proud of every curve she’s earned. At the beginning of this year, she broke boundaries by signing with MiLK Model Management, being the first model of her size to sign with a major modeling agency. She has taken to social media to start the #Effyourbeautystandards movement, encouraging others to create their own definitions of beauty and not to focus on what others may label as flaws… whether that refers to body type, race, sexuality, or gender. “It’s all about accepting yourself the way you are now and loving who you are today. If you want to work towards a better you … do it, but you’re OK just the way you are today,” she told Today.

Courtney Mina

We have a special place in our heart reserved for Courtney Mina. This Instagram beauty is famously known for shamelessly showing off her curves in the sexiest of lingerie (hit us up, girl, we got you!). She challenged herself to post a lingerie selfie every day for one week to see what the results would be. She was overcome with an outpouring of support, and claimed she could count the negative comments on one hand. She told People, “I wanted to not only explain and show how I gained my own confidence, but show people what actually happens when you’re a plus-size person being confident, sexy, and showing off your body.”

These women are collectively changing the conversation around bigger bodies and letting the world know that they can be just as beautiful as the next one. By redefining the standards of beauty, these women are positively impacting the lives of others around the world. So ladies, embrace your curves, step out of the box that conventional beauty standards have established, and flaunt what you’ve got. Once you can learn to love yourself, you will see how beautiful you truly are. They’re telling fat-shaming to “talk to the hand,” and creating a community of confident women who can finally be comfortable in their own skin. Snaps to you, ladies!
